Mitch Treiger Scholarship
The Mitch Treiger Scholarship Fund The Mitch Treiger Scholarship Fund started in November 2007. The Scholarship is named after Mitchell Treiger who passed away in 2004. Mitch was an extraordinary man who got the most out of life. Mitch was a husband and a father He was a dermatologist here in Philadelphia. He was a lawyer on the California Bar. He was a Vetern of the Viet Nam war. He also served our country with the Strategic Air Command (S.A.C.). He was a licenesed pilot and an avid boater. He held a degree in business, owned and operated many successful ventures and then taught others how to do the same. He was also a martial artist who trained in and taught Tai-Chi. He held the rank of 1st degree Black belt in Taekwon-do and trained at Ott's TKD for 5 years. You could know Mitch for years and not know the half of him. You might not even know he had Diabetes. This scholarship is for a child who shows the same attitude in their own life. A life not full of excuses. Children 18 and under can apply for the scholarship as long as they meet the criteria for eligibility. The scholarship can be used for grade school tuition, high school tuition, college tuition or medical supplies or costs related to having diabetes. The Criteria for eligibility is as Follows: 1. Applicants must be 18 or under currently enrolled in school and not above the 12th grade. 2. Applicant must show medical proof that they have Type I or Type II diabetes. 3. Applicant must be active in some form of physical sports throughout the year. (I.E. You can't play baseball in the spring and take the rest of the year off) 4. Applicant must hold a grade average of 3.0 or better. (all "B's" or better in all subjects or nothing below an 80.) The recipient will be chosen by the "Mitch Treiger Scholarship Fund" board of directors. One (1) $1000.00 scholarship will be awarded in the 2008 school year.
